In today’s news, European Union helps support World Food Programme in Iraq, mayors across the globe announce new paradigm for economic recovery, disadvantaged families receive solar power kits in Benin, engineers improve base layer of Australian roads using recycled materials, California distributes money to create housing for homeless people, London boroughs ban meat at catered council events, and specially trained dogs protect bears and humans in Japan.

At-risk individuals in Iraq benefit from European solidarity.

Refugees who fled the conflict in Syria, as well as Iraqi citizens who left their homes, are among the most vulnerable people in the country. Families that used to depend on finding daywork lost that income with the arrival of COVID-19. The European Union, a Shining World Leadership Award for Peace recipient, and a Shining World Leadership Awards for Compassion, Unconditional World Care and True Caring laureate, has responded with a contribution of €5 million to help the United Nations World Food Programme provide humanitarian aid for six months. Those in need will receive funds on their mobile phones or registered “e-vouchers” that can be used to buy food at shops in the camps. Our loving appreciation, European Union and World Food Programme! May all who are suffering find solace in the comforting love of Allah.

Task force proposes COVID-19 recovery measures.

C40 Cities is an international association of mayors committed to reducing greenhouse gas emissions and climate risks. In response to the coronavirus recession of 2020, the group has formulated steps that leaders can take toward a sustainable recovery for their cities. The plan prioritizes support for essential workers, the creation of new green jobs, access to pure water and healthy food, affordable housing and urban green spaces with paths for walking and cycling. Additionally, the mayors will call on state governments and financial institutions to cease all fossil fuel investments and subsidies. In short, C40 Cities intends to create a ‘new normal’ that is healthier, safer and more sustainable – a better future for everyone. We applaud your enlightened ideals, C40 Cities’ mayors! We pray that your residents will rise to the challenge and help establish a new age of truth, in Celestial oneness.

Up next, disadvantaged families receive solar power kits in Benin. We’ll take a moment to thank the courteous toll collectors, who spend long hours in booths so that motorists can pay for using particular roads, bridges and tunnels. Please stay tuned to Supreme Master Television for more motivating news.

Hallo, kind viewers! I am Beatrice the vegan Beagle! Do you want to know the secret of my good mood? It’s because I eat plant-based food! Here is a helpful tip if you’re new to gardening. Postpone any digging or planting when the ground is obviously wet. If you work with soil while it is saturated, its components – mostly sand, silt and clay – can easily clump together, leaving no space for air. Roots need oxygen! The earth doesn’t have to be completely dry, but it’s better to wait until it crumbles in your hands before using a shovel or trowel. Thank you for watching and love you for Being Veg and Going Green 2 Save the Planet for all of us humans and all co-inhabitants alike. Now, weather from around the world.

West African homes gain access to electricity.

The Millennium Challenge Corporation (MCC) is an independent United States foreign assistance agency that strives to reduce poverty in developing countries by supporting economic growth. MCC is partnering with the government of Benin through a US$375 million contract designed to modernize the country’s power sector. One of the goals of the agreement is to fund off-grid electrification for disadvantaged and unserved families. Two companies have been hired to deliver solar kits to at least 5,000 rural households. Greenlight Planet will supply the system components, which will be installed and maintained by African Renewable Energy System and Solution. The families will receive lamps for light, USB ports for charging mobile phones and digital televisions. Our compliments and gratitude, Millennium Challenge Corporation, the Benin government and participating contractors. May your employees and customers be blessed with contented lives, in the light of the Divine.

Researchers in Melbourne, Australia, combine rubble and rubber to build better roads.

A team of engineers at RMIT University sought ways to make the construction of streets and highways more sustainable. The conventional components of the base layer – just beneath the asphalt paving – are quarried rock and natural sand. Instead, the researchers tried using a mixture of recycled concrete debris and crumbs of rubber from discarded tires. They found that in the right proportion, the blended material has the strength and flexibility to meet safety standards and handle heavy traffic. The team says their alternative approach conserves natural resources, removes waste from the environment and is less likely to crack as it ages. Bravo, RMIT University engineers, for reusing materials that are abundant and not usually recycled. May your innovation soon spread to other countries and facilitate the world’s progress toward a truly circular economy.

Governor releases stimulus funds to alleviate homelessness.

For a new project called Homekey, California’s Department of Housing and Community Development is distributing US$550 million in federal Coronavirus Relief Fund plus an additional US$50 million from the state’s own coffers. The money will be available to cities and counties who want to convert hotels, motels and other buildings into permanent housing for homeless people. Recently, California Governor, the Honorable Gavin Newsom, a Shining World Leadership Award for Loving Care laureate, announced that applications would be fast-tracked and awarded funds would need to be spent by the end of the year. To expedite the conversion of properties, the governor also approved legislation that provides local governments with automatic zoning compliance and an exemption from environmental reviews. California is a Shining World Leadership Awards for Protection and Compassion laureate. God bless you, Governor Gavin Newsom and all involved government officials! With compassionate acts such as yours, may our world soon herald the end of homelessness, in Heaven's mercy.

Coming up, London boroughs ban meat at catered council events. We will pause for a moment to close our eyes and pray to the highest power we can imagine. May we be reassured in our hearts – despite the prevailing uncertainty – that God is still our refuge and strength. More gladdening news when we return! Please stay with us here on Supreme Master Television. Welcome back to Noteworthy News - Elegant News for a Gracious World.

Enfield Council declares a climate emergency and prohibits meat.

The borough, about 16 kilometers north of Central London, will serve only vegan or vegetarian food at its catered events starting in December 2020. The local authorities feel the urgency of taking action to mitigate the climate crisis and plan on reaching carbon neutrality by 2030. Another London borough, Lewisham, has also voted in favor of requiring food served on its premises to be plant-based. Additionally, the city of Leeds, in West Yorkshire, has pledged to offer more vegan meals and have meat-free days twice a week in 182 primary schools. Wonderful news, local authorities in the United Kingdom! May other councils, cities and public sector organizations be inspired to emulate your well-informed decisions, in Divine wisdom.

Japanese wildlife organization trains canines to conserve black bears.

Picchio is a conservation and eco-tour center located in the resort town of Karuizawa. The surrounding forests offer an abundance of things that Asian black bears enjoy eating. And yet, it is easy for the animals to wander from their own habitat into areas occupied by humans. To reduce the number of unpleasant encounters, Picchio was authorized to put radio collars on the bears for monitoring their movements. The staff also enlisted the help of several specially trained Karelian Bear dogs, whose barking teaches the wild animals that it is not safe to approach human dwellings. Over the past 20 years, the nonprofit organization’s novel methods have reduced bear sightings in town by 75%. Hats off, Picchio conservationists and dedicated pups, for your efforts to maintain everyone’s safety. May all earthlings learn to coexist harmoniously, in the radiance of the Providence.

It took us three days to find this joke funny. Let’s see how long it takes you. It’s entitled, “Mother Tongue.”

Little Charlie was curious and said to his father:

“Dad, why do they call the language we speak our ‘mother tongue’?”

“That’s because mothers use it so much and fathers rarely get a chance to speak.”
