Between the 19th and mid-20th centuries, the world underwent dramatic transformations. Along with the rapid growth of the Industrial Revolution and technological advancements, global citizens saw two worldwide conflicts and sudden changes in the geopolitical landscape. Meanwhile, diverse new philosophies and ways of thinking were emerging. During this era of chaos and confusion, many people attempted to bring clarity and understanding to their fellow human beings. One such person was a humble German woman named Bertha Dudde, who transcribed powerful spiritual messages that the world desperately needed to hear. According to Ms. Dudde, these messages were revelations she received directly from God. Decades after her passing, the words she left behind are still relevant, perhaps now more than ever. In our series of shows on Bertha Dudde, we’ll select some of the Divine passages she transcribed that will hopefully shed light on current world events and help to illuminate a path to salvation for humanity.
Bertha Dudde began her Earthly sojourn on a spring day in 1891 in the beautiful city of Legnica in Silesia. At that time, Legnica was part of Germany before being transferred to Poland in 1945. Little historical information can be found about her life, except for a short autobiography she wrote at the request of friends in November 1953.
According to Ms. Dudde, “I was born April 1, 1891, the second oldest daughter of an artist of Liegnitz in Schlesien. I had a normal peaceful childhood, with six siblings in our parent’s home. I learned the worries of life at an early age. The desire to make money to help my parents made me learn the trade of a seamstress. As the financial needs of my parents continued, so did the burden, and in this way, I made myself useful.
My parents belonged to different denominations. Father was a Protestant, Mother a Catholic. We children were brought up in the Catholic faith but never experienced pressure or force to follow the practices of the Church so that each child in later years could pursue their own chosen course.
I myself was religious but could not accept the doctrine of the Catholic system although I respected the Church. I could not represent something on the outside that my inner conscience had not accepted. So I did not continue to attend church, heard little preaching and had no knowledge of the Bible. I did not read any religious books or scientific literature and did not join any other group or religious denomination.”
Young Bertha grew up in an ordinary working-class family and was fortunate to be raised by open-minded parents. Although she did not follow conventional religious practices, she remained true to herself, and her longing for God intensified over the years. She described the first time she received an inner message.
“Often when I prayed the Lord’s Prayer, I would beseech the LORD to allow me to find His Kingdom. This prayer was answered on June 15, 1937, as I prayed quietly and waited for the inner voice. In this state I persisted often, for a wonderful peace came over me and thoughts which came to my heart, not my head, gave me comfort and strength. Still, I did not know that these thoughts were given to me until, in a strange dream I experienced something which later proved to be the Truth and caused me to write down these thoughts. So on a certain day as I listened inwardly a stream of words came to me, which I wrote down. This was the first message I wrote which started like this: ‘In the beginning was the Word, a Te Deum (Latin hymn of praise to God) to the Creator of Heaven and Earth.’”
From 1937, when Ms. Dudde first received God’s Word at the age of 46, till 1965, when she departed from the physical world, she received 9,030 spiritual proclamations, which she carefully recorded, numbered, and dated. Most of her notes have survived to this day, being preserved and made available to the public through booklets, publications, and online websites such as bertha-dudde.info.
Bertha Dudde’s messages demonstrate a masterful command of language, extraordinary eloquence and insight, vast knowledge about metaphysical laws, and familiarity with the Bible. Most of all, they are visionary and prophetic, revealing profound wisdom that is far beyond her time and normal human perception. How did Ms. Dudde manage to write these unusual passages with no higher education or formal training and little religious background? It’s long been a mystery to many and was even a puzzle to Ms. Dudde herself.
“The contents of the writings were beyond my understanding. Phrases which I had never heard of or read about, strange and scientific expressions and references continually came to me. Then came unheard of expressions of the Heavenly Father’s Love giving refuge and providing enlightenment to all the questions of life. […]
I can truthfully say that I was led into this Truth, and these concepts were, in every respect, foreign to me.
It was only after months that I found confirmation of what I received when I came to know the writings of the Styrian mystic Jakob Lorber. No one can imagine my joy when I discovered the literature of Jakob Lorber: the ‘Great Gospel of John’ and ‘The Childhood of Jesus.’ Then I understood that other people were given the Word of the Lord, that God had spoken to His children at all times, and that God will continue to do this in His endless Love and Mercy.”
Bertha Dudde also described how these extraordinary communications happened to her. Usually, after “sincere prayer and a short period of composure,” she turned her attention inward, and then “Words” came to her mind clearly and slowly. She first recorded them in shorthand and later transcribed them faithfully to longhand without altering even a syllable. Each session usually lasted about half an hour. She added,
“I must stress that this could not happen forcibly or in a state of ecstasy. It all takes place simply and consciously, without any excitement or influence of my own will. I can interrupt myself at any time and finish the sentence after hours or days without reading the previous writing the dictated words again.”
God, our Creator, came through in Ms. Dudde’s writings as having infinite Compassion and the best intentions for humanity, as you can see from the following passages.
“I Am Love Itself, heartlessness is My adversary... and anyone who therefore desires to be united with Me, who wants to attain Me must live a life of love, for then I must also be with him, because Love is and has been My fundamental substance for eternity.”
“You have in Me the most faithful friend, the most loving Father and most watchful Protector for your life on Earth. And you can hand yourselves over to My Protection without qualms if only you feel that you are your Father’s children and grant Me your heart for time and eternity. […]
I want to strengthen your faith and increase your willingness to love and open your spiritual senses for everything that comes from above... Because I love you, My children, I want to save your soul for eternity... One day I would like to make all beatitudes accessible to you and therefore want to guide you into true realization…”
It is from the God of all Love and all Grace that Ms. Dudde received her messages and sounded an alarm to humanity during its darkest hours.
