During the conference, many world leaders warned about the imminent, devastating impacts of climate change. One such leader was The Honorable Simon Kofe, Tuvalu’s Minister for Justice, Communication and Foreign Affairs, who stood knee-deep in water to deliver his message. “In Tuvalu, we are living the realities of climate change sea level rise as you stand watching me today at COP26. We cannot wait for speeches when the sea is rising around us all the time. Climate mobility must come to the forefront, we must take bold alternative action today to secure tomorrow.” During COP26, global citizens also protested against government inaction. On November 5, 2021, people around the world participated in an international event called, “Global Day of Action for Climate Justice.” In Glasgow, more than 100,000 people marched through the streets. Evan LeFevre, also known as “Vegan Evan,” a widely renowned animal-people rights activist and Shining World Compassion Award recipient, also attended COP26. He expressed his gratitude to Supreme Master Ching Hai and his wish for the world. “Thank You Supreme Master (Ching Hai) for everything You do for the animals, and for all the humans, and not just for the animals but for our planet. Because the animals on the planet, they need our help, and You’re doing an amazing job.” Although countless scientific reports conclude that raising animal-people for food is one of the leading causes of climate change, this topic was not discussed at COP26. Vanessa Hudson, Leader of the Animal Welfare Party, shared her view on this issue. “I cannot answer as to why our leaders aren't leading on this, why they aren't leading us towards a plant-based food future. We need people to lead us out of this crisis that we're in, which is a climate crisis, a biodiversity crisis, a health crisis, some would also say social justice crisis, to lead us to a future that works for all, and that has to start with a plant-based food system.” In a heartfelt speech in “Ahimsa and the Environment,” an online event held by the UK non-profit organization Go Dharmic, Master said the following: “All turbulences in our society are created by the violent and oppressive way we treat the innocent and vulnerable beings. We are destroying the plant kingdom, poisoning our food and water, killing helpful insects, animal-people, and killing humans as well, including our own children and babies, Billions of animal-people are slaughtered for meat consumption every week! They are also being horrifically oppressed to produce milk and eggs… All livestock farming is haunted with that oppressive, torturous, murderous, and utter suffering energy, all that tormented energy. And we are living in it. Then of course, by consuming these dead animal-people products, not only our soul will recognize it as unbefitting, cruel, wicked and devilish, but also our physical body will revolt. And then, sicknesses come… Now, imagine that kind of energy is being consumed by the mass of people globally and daily. Do we still wonder why our world degrades to this extent and suffers the way it does? Let’s pray for the quick rescuing of our planet and that our leaders and co-citizens alike will take heed of the warnings from nature, because nature is our own reflection. May God help the message of peace, mercy and benevolence to reach everyone’s hearts and open our minds to make the right choice, thus repair and sustain our only Earth home.”
