Chapter 2. The Annunciation to Mary and Joseph. Songs of Elizabeth, of Mary and Joseph.

“‘That thou may say to the captives, Go ye forth and be free; and to them that are in darkness, show yourselves in the light. And they shall feed in the ways of pleasantness; and shall no more hunt nor worry the creatures which I have made to rejoice before me. They shall not hunger nor thirst anymore; neither shall the heat smite them nor the cold destroy them. And I will make on all my mountains a way for travelers; and my high places shall be exalted.’”

Chapter 3. Birth and naming of John the Baptist, song of Zacharias.

“‘And thou, child, shall be called the Prophet of the Highest: for thou shall go before the face of the Lord, to prepare His ways; to give knowledge of salvation unto His people, by the remission of their sins. Through the tender mercy of our God, whereby the dayspring from on high has visited us; to give light to them that sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, to guide our feet into the way of peace.’“
