Today, in the last episode of this series, we will look at COVID’s impact on our lives from social, economic and political perspectives. The World Health Organization (WHO) states that the COVID pandemic is one of the biggest global crises in generations and has had a tremendous effect on health systems, economies and societies. Since the outbreak in December 2019, millions have lost their lives, and the negative impact of quarantine measures and lockdowns on businesses and people’s livelihoods are immeasurable. Not only has the pandemic had a significant impact on socioeconomics around the world, but it has also materially worsened mental health globally. According to a January 2021 survey cited in a review study on the influence of the COVID-19 pandemic on psychological status, tension and depression had a prevalence of 41% globally.A study published in the scientific journal PLOS ONE suggests that COVID-19 may have a significant impact on an individual’s personality. The impact could be tremendous if the judgment of important leaders of the world were to be impaired due to a drastic transformation in personality. The US think tank the Council on Foreign Relations speculates that Putin may be suffering from “brain fog” caused by long COVID.The impact of COVID goes beyond the immeasurable toll on humans. A research article published in the peer-reviewed journal PNAS, suggests that more than 22,000 metric tons of medical waste might have already entered the oceans. The waste could be ingested by marine animal-people and also increase humans’ risk of exposure to hazardous chemicals that leach out from microplastics, particularly for those who consume seafood. The preventive measures and medical interventions that are regarded as the solution to ending the COVID-19 pandemic are actually creating new issues in the long run, which will eventually affect us in a vicious cycle. We sincerely pray that people around the world will now make a U-turn and adopt a peaceful vegan lifestyle to save coming generations and all our animal co-inhabitants on this planet.
