The mountain pass that separates North and South Vietnam is named the Hải Vân Pass. Hải, meaning south, and Vân, meaning clouds. From this vantage point, one can view the entire country. So, the pass is symbolic of peace and is also a romantic site for lovers. Please welcome Nguyễn Đình Nghĩa, featured on the traditional bamboo flute, accompanied by his family as they perform “Crossing” or going over the path. The traditional bamboo flute has six equally spaced holes covered by the fingers. (Nguyễn Đình) Nghĩa has added five additional holes in order to play our Western scales. Demonstrating his technical facility on this instrument, we will now hear “Turkish March” by Beethoven.
