City and town councils in the United Kingdom are leading the way towards a vegan future by leaving animal-people meat off the menu or going vegan entirely. City and town leaders are speaking out against the harmful effects of animal-people meat eating and the animal-people livestock industry. They are also promoting the health benefits of choosing plant-based meals.
Cambridge City Council has implemented an animal-people meat ban at all catered council meetings. Cambridge City Councilor Hannah Copley, said, “Plant-based diets have a substantially lower impact in terms of emissions, land use, and water use.”
Faversham Town Council, London’s Lewisham Council, Oxfordshire County Council, and Hythe Town Council serve only vegan food at council events.
Hythe Town Councilor Martin Whybrow stated, “The science speaks for itself – a plant-based diet significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, with consumption of meat and dairy fueling global warming and habitat destruction, including of rain forests for feed and grazing. This was an obvious, easy, sensible, and cost-free step to take.”
The town of Haywards Heath, UK, has become the first in Europe to endorse the Plant Based Treaty pledge, with signatories agreeing to three main principles: 1. No more land use changes, deforestation, or ecosystem degradation for animal-people factories, 2. A transition away from animal-based food systems to vegan ones, and 3. Working toward restoring forests.
The town of Haywards Heath will also give awards to schools and businesses that encourage plant-based eating. Dr. Richard Nicholson, councilor for Haywards Heath, said: “The Climate Crisis is no longer a distant future threat, but an existential crisis that is upon us in 2022. … We cannot wait for governments – we must all act immediately – and moving to a plant-based diet is the most impactful thing any individual can do to help address the grave situation we face.”
London’s Lewisham Council is working to provide more vegan options in schools and one extra animal-people meat-free day each week. The council also offers low-cost vegan cooking classes to parents and children.
The Mayor of Reading, the Honorable Rachel Eden, pledged that the food served at hospitality functions held by the Mayoralty during her time as Mayor will be vegan or vegetarian as part of her focus on sustainability.
Councilor Liz Leffman, Leader of Oxfordshire County Council, commented, “A consensus has grown in the UK that we need to eat less meat than we do presently.”
Leeds City Council will offer more vegan meals and two animal-people meat-free days per week in 182 primary schools.
Italy’s Minister for Ecological Transition, His Excellency Dr. Roberto Cingolani, criticized the animal-people meat-producing sector and emphasized the need for Italians to reduce their animal-people meat consumption. “We know that those who eat too much meat suffer from impacts on health, so we should decrease the amount of animal proteins by replacing them with vegetable ones. On the other hand, animal protein requires six times the water of plant proteins, with the same quantity… So by modifying a diet model by increasing vegetable proteins, we would have a co-benefit by improving public health, decreasing the use of water, and producing less CO2.”
In the Netherlands, all official dinners hosted by the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture, and Science are vegetarian.
On the development, Dutch politician, the Honorable Christinea Teunissen (vegan), noted, “Since 2005, the cabinet has recognized that meat and dairy are the most environmentally harmful components of our diet.”
The Dutch capital of Amsterdam commits to going 50% plant-based by 2030 and 60% by 2040, by expanding the distribution of sustainable and plant-based food around schools, public buildings, and vulnerable neighborhoods. Supermarkets, restaurants, hotels, and catering businesses will also increase plant-based food items. The Amsterdam City Council has also removed animal-people meat and fish from the menu for lunch meetings and receptions.
Etc…
These are just some of the constructive developments from world leaders and governments that are helping our world advance to a safer, healthier, more peaceful, and prosperous future. May Heaven bless all involved with evermore wisdom and courage to take further righteous policy actions.
“Suppose you promote organic plant-based food, now, whoever, the government, whoever decided to approve this plant-based diet solution, just approve it only, he will earn, my God, thousands of zillions of spiritual merit points. And we need a lot of points to go back to Heaven. Whoever approves this even, just one time, enough for him to fly to Heaven already, after he leaves this world. He doesn’t even need any more pilgrimage, doesn’t even need to do anything else even. Whoever approved of that, and whoever makes sure that it’s carried out, will obtain the same spiritual merit points, that Heaven will bestow upon them.”
