World Vegan Day was established in 1994 by Ms. Louise Wallis, the then President and Chairperson of "The Vegan Society," the oldest vegan organization in the world, founded in the United Kingdom in November 1944. With a vision to build a world where "humans do not exploit non-human animals," the Vegan Society has a mission:"To make veganism mainstream." Their ideal world is a place where "animals are free to exist in their own right."
