In order to continue to preserve our planet and to elevate the spiritual atmosphere, as well as the wisdom of this planet’s people, we must practice the way of the Masters, the way of the Buddha. That is to be a good and virtuous person in this world. And we must also learn to open our wisdom, open the door of illusion that separates us between this physical existence and the spiritual world.
In different countries there are many spiritual centers. There are many venerable Teachers Who have offered the public many ways to reach enlightenment, many ways to open this door of wisdom. Every country has their own particular religion. It means the majority of each country often follows one religion or another. And besides reading the leftover teachings from the past Masters and practicing religious rituals in churches or temples or mosques, there are also many enlightened, spiritual Masters Who teach mankind how to be enlightened themselves and how to know Heavens, the Kingdom of God or Nirvana while still alive. And due to this graciousness of the enlightened Masters, millions of people have become more self-aware and have led the life of enlightened Saints and have contributed a great deal to their families and society after they have their wisdom opened.
But not all of the teachers or not all of the methods that the people practice can lead us to the ultimate wisdom. Therefore, even if we already practice some kind of meditation method, still there is a lingering question in our hearts whether we have chosen the right method of liberation. The answer is, if the method that we have studied or are studying affords us, offers us, after a short time, peace of mind and a knowledge of the beyond above this world, as well as a very, very loving, compassionate heart – that is, if the teaching has changed us into a better person, has changed us from an ordinary, agitated human being into a Saint – then that method is correct. Otherwise, it doesn’t matter how long we practice or how sincere we are, we may at the most reach some level of magical power or healing power, or fortune-telling power, or kind of see-through-the-walls power – this kind of what we call Heavenly eyes and/or maybe can know the future or know the past – that’s all.
And even with all these powers through our diligent meditation of some kind, we still feel unsettled; we still are being bound by the karma of the past. And we rarely feel the true happiness of inner realization if we have not found the perfect method, the perfect way to reach Nirvana. And therefore, despite our magical power, we still feel life is meaningless, empty, and sometimes quite depressing. And it’s difficult for us to overcome our bad habits that we do not want to have, such as some people like to gamble, some people like to take drugs, some people like to, for example, drink very heavily such that they cannot even stop. So, these magical powers cannot rescue us from the misery of our karma.
When Shakyamuni Buddha was alive, He forbade people to use magical powers. He forbade His disciples to show off their magical ability. But one of His very close disciples always liked to show magical powers. And so, even though he had practiced well, he had not subdued his ego. And thus, he had often misused his miracle power and eventually died from this consequence.
But nowadays, I have found through my previous travels around the world in different so-called spiritual centers that many people are very much inclined to learn magical powers or to very much worship these kinds of abilities. (7 Amazing Abilities of Monks and Practitioners That Ordinary People Can’t Believe) And so, they have spent a lot of time, money, and effort in order to acquire some of them, including flying above the floor, about 20 centimeters for a few seconds, and they feel this is great. But even just to fly above the Earth about 20 centimeters for 11 seconds or so, they have to practice many, many years and pay a lot of dollars. It is great as far as demonstration is concerned, so that the scientists of this world will not argue again that spiritual power or human power cannot overcome the physical obstructions or physical laws of this world, such as gravitation.
During my wandering time in the Himalayas, I have seen many feats of psychic power much more striking and outstanding than the above mentioned. But some of the abilities are too embarrassing for me to even tell you here. I perhaps can tell you in private. If you want to know, maybe go to my room in the lounge and I’ll tell you later.
And according to my very humble observation and opinion, these physical or psychic powers have amounted to no help in wisdom – in the knowledge of the life beyond this world and in helping us to get liberation in this lifetime. And it consumes a lot of our time, whereas we can use it to pursue a more advanced method and a more noble concept of spiritual practice in order to reach our ultimate wisdom, in order to know ourselves and be of use for our beloved ones as well as for the Heavenly Beings.
Why do I say also we can be of use for Heavenly Beings? Because after enlightenment, the higher we reach in our consciousness, the more we can help the Universe – not only our nation, but the Universe. On many different planets, there are people who are unevolved, low-level in spiritual understanding. And the spiritually accomplished person can be the Teacher Who can help them also to develop by having affinity with them. That’s why when Shakyamuni Buddha was alive, people praised Him as the Teacher of Earth and Heaven. Because with the true Self we can ascend to Heaven and hell, and anywhere, any corner of this Universe, in order to help out the beings there; whether they know us or not, we are able to do it.
With all this teaching left over from the Buddha and Lord Jesus, we should be able to think big, to think great, to know that we are not the only human beings in the Universe, and to realize at least that there are many other planets in this great hierarchy. And then we can also reach them if we practice the way of the Buddha.
