Southeastern Korean city schools offer vegetarian meals

The Ulsan City Office of Education is promoting vegetarianism in response to climate change and to improve student health. Currently, 92% of its 248 schools offer daily vegetarian meals to students who request it, and 94% have “Meat-free Monday” lunches every two weeks. The meals use protein-rich legumes instead of meat. School cooks, nutrition teachers, and dieticians have received specialized training on vegetarianism and climate change.

The schools have also carried out a wide range of initiatives to promote veg education and connect students with the environment, including setting up veg cooking festivals and school gardens. Our thanks, Ulsan City Office of Education, for emphasizing the importance of a plant-based diet to better child wellness and overcome the climate crisis.

May all educational institutions soon encourage veganism among students, families, and teachers, in Heaven’s upliftment.
